The 11th Annual Lost Dutchman Marathon will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012. MARATHON COURSE: The marathon is a scenic, rolling, point-to-point, USA T&F certified course (#AZ02007GAN) that can be used as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. All runners will receive free transportation to the start. A clothing drop bag location will be at the marathon start, and runners will receive their clothes after the finish of the race. The race start elevation is at 2330 feet above sea level. The elevation at the finish is 1840 feet. The elevation rises and falls gradually numerous times throughout most of the course. Every mile split will be marked. The race will be chip timed. OTHER RACE COURSES: The half marathon and 10K are both scenic out-and-back courses, starting and ending in Prospector Park. The 8K is a desert trail run starting and ending in Prospector Park. The 2-mile family fun run/walk starts and ends in the Park and loops out on to Idaho Road. There will be a clothing bag drop zone in Prospector Park for the convenience of the runners not wishing to return to their cars. There will be mile markers on each race course. All races except the 2 Mile will be Chip timed. This event will occur rain or shine. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, there will be no refunds; unused proceeds will be donated to the Lost Dutchman Marathon, Inc. youth charities.

The City of Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite the community to participate in our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Prospector Park! Come help find 6,000 prize filled eggs!
This egg hunt is open to all ages and is free to the public. The hunt is divided up into separate age groups: 2 & under, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8, 9&10, and “Big Kids” ages 11 to adult. Special prizes will be given to those who find a token in the egg during the hunt. Don’t forget to bring your Easter baskets to carry all of your goodies! There will be other activities and games sponsored by local non-profit organizations available during and after the egg hunt. Most activities will cost a small fee to participate. Bring your camera so that you can capture your very own picture with the Easter Bunny!
The first egg hunt will begin at 9 a.m. for kids 2 and under. The remaining hunts will begin immediately after the first in order of age. Be sure to come early and allow for plenty of time to park!
For a donation of $3 per adult and $1.50 per child, you can enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast sponsored by Mountain Health & Wellness. The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and continue until the food runs out, so come early and come hungry!
The hunt and breakfast will take place on the softball fields at Prospector Park, located at 3015 N. Idaho Rd. The park is about 1/8th of a mile north of Lost Dutchman Blvd. (also known as Brown in Mesa). Any local non-profit organizations that would like to sponsor a booth at the Easter Egg Hunt should contact Chrystal Sawyer at 480-474-5159.

Lost Dutchman Marathon
Sun, 19 Feb 2012 00:00:00 +0000
Races: Marathon
The marathon starts a half mile south of the Peralta Trailhead on Peralta Road. The first six miles are on a well-maintained, unpaved road through beautiful desert vistas. The seventh mile of Peralta Road is a newly paved four-lane boulevard. The course transitions to US 60 for 1.5 miles and then turns north on Kings Ranch Road for a tour of the beautiful and historic Kings Ranch and Gold Canyon area. There are rolling hills in this area, but the focus is on the majestic view of the famous Superstition Mountains immediately to the north that rise straight up from an elevation of 2000' to 5000'. The course returns to US 60 at approximately the 15 mile mark and follows US 60 for another 1.5 miles to Mountain View Road. The course follows Mountain View Road, with a couple of diversions, to Lost Dutchman Boulevard. Immediately upon turning onto Lost Dutchman Boulevard, runners will notice a hill with a wall at the top. The hill is a tenth of a mile from bottom to top with a 50 foot elevation gain and is reverently called The Dutchman's Revenge (pictured, right). From the top of the hill you will be able to see the finish line a little over three miles in the distance at Prospector Park on North Idaho Road.
